Report International Talent Map 2023

SUMMARY

The International Talent Map 2023 report is a comparative study conducted in several European countries, exploring the drivers and challenges of attracting and retaining international talent for territories and employers. This survey is part of the " Switch to Sweden "project run jointly by Linköping Science Park, Future Place Leadership, European Talent Mobility Forum and Vinnova. The aim is to extend the study to an international level to better understand the dynamics of talent attraction/retention in Europe.

The report is based on data from over 300 companies and more than 2,600 talents across Europe.

It includes a study of motivations and obstacles to talent mobility, as well as a mirror study of employers' needs and expectations.

Targets: International students and professionals working mainly in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), as well as European companies interested in employing international talent.

Key findings:

  • "International talent and companies recognize the importance of cultural diversity and the added value of international skills.
  • The main challenges for companies include the complexity of legal procedures (visas, work permits), language and cultural challenges.
  • For talent, the main obstacles are distance from family and friends, the feeling of an unwelcoming territory, and the lack of social and professional networks.
  • The elements that attract talent are work-life balance, career opportunities and the quality of the working environment.
  • Companies recognize that they need help to navigate the complexities of employing international talent, particularly in terms of legal knowledge and integration procedures."
