SUMMARY

The French Healthy Cities Network is an association of 118 local authorities committed to integrating health into all local public policies.

For some years now, it has been supporting the Villes-Santé in their reflections and work around food and physical activity. In 2022, it set up a dedicated working group, whose discussions resulted in a collection of actions leading to the publication, in 2023, of the book "Alimentation saine et activité physique : les Villes et Intercommunalités actrices en promotion de la santé".

This document aims to highlight the role of local authorities in promoting health through food and physical activity; share concrete local initiatives; inspire local prevention policies and contribute to reducing social and territorial inequalities in health.

It is structured around 5 chapters, all illustrated by case studies:

  • Creating a facilitating context for action
  • Creating favorable environments
  • Empowering individuals to take action
  • Acting through the living environment
  • Promoting physical activity and healthy eating for therapeutic purposes
