SUMMARY
Recognizing that our eating habits have a major impact on climate change, the city of Ghent (Belgium) has set itself the goal of making its food system more sustainable . The "Gent en Garde" initiative is based on five pillars: raising awareness among residents and visitors of the impact of our food on the climate, shortening the supply chain and boosting the visibility of local production, reinforcing the social value of sustainable food initiatives, combating food waste, and finally, recycling food waste. The approach has met with real success, thanks to participative governance bringing together all players in the sector within the Food Policy Council.
