SUMMARY

Initiated in March 2023, the " Water Plan ", announced by the French President, aims to reduce water withdrawals by 10% by 2030, compared to 2022, in all economic sectors. In line with this plan, the DGE (Direction Générale des Entreprises) has carried out a survey of players in the tourism industry concerning their use of water. Until now, little data was available on water use in the tourism sector, which is particularly diversified. This study has enabled us to establish an order of magnitude for water consumption by activity: 59% is attributed to accommodation, followed by catering, then snowmaking and golf, both of which consume a great deal of water. Although the players involved show a strong commitment (94% of hotels raise their customers' awareness), more needs to be done to achieve more sustainable management.
