SUMMARY

In a global context of climate change and rapid urbanization, cities must be able to meet the basic needs of their populations while preserving the environment. Water management is a key variable in the quality of life, sustainability, productivity and resilience of 21st century cities. Cities that have taken the measure of this challenge are implementing cross-functional policies and strategic initiatives to accelerate their transition to more water-friendly practices. In Australia, where droughts are on the increase, they are known as Water Sensitive Cities.
