Tourisme Regeneratif Visit Flanders Travel To Tomorrow

SUMMARY

The health crisis has reinforced the trend towards more sustainable tourism. While this evolution is still in progress, another "revolution" is taking shape with the emergence of regenerative tourism. It's no longer a question of balancing economic benefits with social and ecological impacts, but of actively contributing to the development of the territory visited and the quality of life of local communities. In marketing terms, this shift in perspective focuses on the needs of local people and the region. On the demand side, a recent Expedia study (2022) reveals that 34% of travelers have given their time to help local communities in their destination.

How can we turn tourism into a lever for preserving and restoring territories? How can we raise awareness and encourage visitors and local residents to play an active role in regional development? This publication analyses this new concept and benchmarks international practices.
