ABSTRACT
Justine PUY - Master 2 "Attractiveness and New Territorial Marketing" - Academic year 2023/2024
This thesis looks at the issue of territorial attractiveness in terms of innovative activities, and more specifically at the role that innovation intermediaries can play in this process. Innovation intermediaries are actors who promote exchanges and collaborations between the various players in the innovation ecosystem, such as companies, universities, research centers and investors.
Within this framework, this dissertation focuses on the case study of Linkeus, a regional convention bureau in the South of France, one of whose missions is to promote innovation and economic development in its region. The research questions are: what are the roles and practices of innovation intermediaries within Linkeus? How do these roles and practices contribute to the attractiveness of the region in terms of innovative activities?
To answer these research questions, a literature review was carried out on innovation intermediaries and their role in the economic development of territories. Work on territorial attractiveness in terms of innovative activities was also studied, focusing on key success factors. Several key roles and practices of innovation intermediaries were identified, such as networking innovation players, promoting the region's scientific and technological excellence, and supporting innovative companies.
For the case study, a qualitative approach was adopted, conducting semi-structured interviews with key players in Linkeus and its innovation ecosystem. The interviews and data analysis revealed that these roles and practices contribute significantly to the attractiveness of the region in terms of innovative activities, attracting talent, investment and international events.
The results show that innovation intermediaries play a key role in the economic development of territories, particularly in terms of attracting innovative activities. In the case of Linkeus, several key roles and practices were identified, such as networking innovation players, promoting the region's scientific and technological excellence, and supporting innovative companies.
