SUMMARY
This report from the Shift Project (2021) is the fruit of a year and a half's work involving dozens of professionals from the sector. It presents the main energy and climate challengesfacing the cultural sector, as well as the decarbonization levers that need to be activated to gain resilience.
The report proposes 5 lines of action for professionals:
1/ Relocate activities: place culture at the heart of territories and make it a driving force for local transition through all its needs (purchasing, food, buildings, energy, mobility and transport).
2/ Slow down: artists will continue to travel... provided that they extend their trips to reduce their number.
3/ Reduce scale: reduce gauges, technical devices and the transportation of equipment and people. Make way for the de-escalation of the "eventization" of culture.
4/ Eco-design works
5/ Renouncing current practices and carbon-intensive technological opportunities
This publication is part of the Plan de Transformation de l'Economie Française (PTEF), a vast research program launched by The Shift Project in spring 2020 to identify concrete measures to be implemented in each sector to achieve carbon neutrality in France by 2050.
