SUMMARY
The survey, self-administered by computer, was carried out in mid-October 2024 among a representative sample of 1,003 people from the French population aged 18 and over. Among the key players for the common good of their region or territory, respondents cited local authorities first (37.5% of quotes), followed by small and medium-sized businesses (32% of quotes) - ahead of the State, associations and large corporations. 58% of French people believe that companies' commitment to their region makes it a more attractive place to live and work.
In terms of expectations, health (37%), employment (37%) and the environment (28% of quotes) are the priority areas for cooperation or partnerships between companies and local authorities to serve the common good. These cooperative ventures, like the actions of local authorities, are also seen as the most credible means of reconciling job preservation and ecological transition at local level.
On the other hand, nearly seven out of ten French people feel that legislation should oblige companies to assume greater economic, social and environmental responsibility towards their local area, and that public aid or authorizations should be conditional on quantified commitments.
