STUDY DISSERTATION | "The narrative approach or the need for a territorial story in the context of the residential attractiveness of small towns" - The case of Quimperlé (Finistère)

Student Productions Brand, identity and perception

SUMMARY

Jérôme LEMOINE - Master 2 "Attractiveness and New Territorial Marketing" - Academic year 2020/2021

As the poor relations of residential attractiveness, small towns sometimes suffer from a weak identity and a depreciated image, which only a revaluation of their immaterial dimensions - symbolic, imaginary, mythical - can hope to alleviate at this urban scale. The notion of a "territorial narrative" and the way in which the new resident integrates his or her own history into it therefore take on their full relevance in the success of a territorial project. This dissertation is therefore unique in that it brings together two apparently distinct disciplines: territory on the one hand, and dramaturgy on the other. It presents the new resident as a hero confronted with his new territory, considered here as a narrative space, or even a character in its own right.

Keywords: Residential attractiveness, Brittany, cultural identity, hero, image, neo-resident, intangible heritage, small town, territorial narrative, storytelling, city.
