SUMMARY
"Protected landscapes of great renown, welcoming more than 38 million visitors annually, the Grands Sites de France have developed over 20 years of expertise in sustainable visitor management. To obtain and maintain the "Grand Site de France" state label, they implement long-term territorial projects, aiming to strike a balance between preserving landscape quality, welcoming the public and sustainable local development. Visitor management is integrated into these projects through a global, cross-functional strategy.
The Grands Sites de France implement numerous tools to distribute tourist flows and limit their impact on heritage areas, the quality of visits and the quality of life of local residents.
This guide [...] comprises 10 methodological chapters illustrated by 30 practical example sheets. It deals with strategies and governance, regulations, management of uses and developments, raising awareness among professionals, residents and visitors, reception and mediation, upstream and on-site communication. With a transversal vision of the projects, it is also a question of transforming the tourism offer and promoting alternative modes of discovery, particularly ecomobility."
