SUMMARY
This short video (4') presents the challenges of climate change, which has a direct impact on farming activities, and an experimental scheme that enables farmers to finance and enhance the value of their actions to combat global warming, protect biodiversity and preserve water resources. Payments for Environmental Services (PES) are an interesting way of compensating for the lack of resources on farms and encouraging agro-ecological practices.
By the end of 2024, 3,500 farmers had already signed up to a PES scheme in 130 territories. An initial evaluation of the scheme showed "the success of the PES experiment with water agencies, project developers and farmers, who emphasize its flexibility and adaptability to local conditions".
