SUMMARY

The "Observatoire des territoires" launched its series of "cahiers" devoted to the transitions that are shaping our country with an in-depth look at demographic trends over the last two centuries, focusing on more recent trends from the late 1960s (1968 census) to the present day.

This second section looks at economic issues and their sub-national balances. It highlights the diversity of territorial trajectories and illustrates the different situations in terms of local and regional dynamics. For example, the phenomenon of " de-industrialization " covers different realities in different regions: areas in decline, areas where tertiary growth has taken over, or areas where land availability preserves significant productive potential.
