SUMMARY

According to Santé publique France, heatwaves caused the premature death of 2,800 people in 2022. Cities are particularly hard hit by heatwaves, due to heat island phenomena and their mineral nature. In order to make them more resilient in the face of global warming, many metropolises are starting to think about and implement initiatives. The French government is encouraging these policies by reinforcing legal obligations (Loi Climat et Résilience) and supporting the renaturation of urban spaces through a 500 million euro fund. Based on a detailed diagnosis, Marseille has drawn up a bioclimatic action plan to cool the city center and improve the health and quality of life of its residents.

Keywords: adaptation, climate change, sustainable cities, metropolises, nature in the city, resilience.
