SUMMARY

In response to the COVID19 epidemic, most countries have taken measures to restrict travel and control borders. Like others in Europe, the French government has decided to close schools, colleges, high schools and universities, then implemented containment measures (Decree no. 2020-260 of March 16, 2020). All activities are impacted by these decisions, and in particular those working in the field of attractiveness (culture, events, sport, tourism, etc.).

However, local authorities, attractiveness and economic development agencies and destination management bodies have an important role to play both during the crisis and in preparing for its aftermath. Many organizations are active on the internet and social networks to relay information, encourage people to stay at home and improve their living conditions, and support those who care for us or provide for our basic needs. Agencies are mobilizing their networks to manage the crisis, promoting their heritage or the solidarity initiatives undertaken by local players. Some tourism authorities even take advantage of the situation to inspire us to dream about future trips.

This first special report offers a panorama of initiatives (non-exhaustive list) in the fields of economic development, tourism, attractiveness, hospitality, solidarity, culture and events. It also provides useful links for information and tools during the crisis, as well as some food for thought.
