SUMMARY

With 230,000 foreign students in 2019, France is the fifth-largest host country after the USA, the UK, Australia and Germany. However, its attractiveness is waning as new countries attract students (Saudi Arabia, Canada, China...). That's why, in 2019, the government, universities and Grandes Écoles have defined a strategy to increase the international appeal of French institutions and promote the mobility of French students.

The aim is to train 500,000 international students by 2027. This strategy aims to boost France's attractiveness to international students, an attractiveness that has geopolitical, cultural and economic implications. We'll also look at how student cities and local authorities are taking up the issue.
