SUMMARY

Trust is a key concept in many areas of the social sciences. An interdisciplinary study of the concept highlights the economist's view as "either calculative (...) or institutional" and the psychologists' as "the evaluation of trust in terms of trustor attributes" (Rousseau et al. 1998, p. 393). In the field of marketing, trust is considered a fundamental concept in relationship marketing for maintaining successful relationships between partners (Morgan and Hunt 1994).

The interdisciplinary view of the concept of trust might not be "so different after all". Rousseau et al. assert that "confident expectations and a willingness to be vulnerable are essential components of all the definitions of trust reflected in the articles" (Rousseau et al. 1998, p. 394).

As suggested by the administrative sciences, a recent definition of trust is "a psychological state including the intention to accept vulnerability based on positive expectations about an actor's intentions or behavior" (Karens et al. 2016, p. 3).
