SUMMARY
This INSEE publication brings together the first results for moves carried out in 2021, i.e. the first data available for post-health crisis moves [1].
In 2021, 6.8 million people moved into a new home, the same number as in 2019. However, there were slightly more moves from the Île-de-France region to other regions than before the health crisis .
"Three out of ten people who moved during 2021 stayed in the same commune, slightly fewer than in 2019. Moves from Île-de-France to other metropolitan regions increased by 25%, with 56,000 more people moving in 2021 than in 2019. Mobility to catchment areas of cities with smaller populations than those of origin has also increased (+101,000 people in 2021 compared to 2019, i.e. +15%). This is also the case for mobility from urban communes to rural communes (+85,000 people, or +12%), even if these are mainly moves to peri-urban rural areas. At the same time, mobility from rural to urban areas is down slightly".
