SUMMARY
Since 2019, the Parlement de Loire, led by POLAU (Pôle arts & urbanisme), has been exploring the notion of the river recognized as a living entity. The aim is to give the Loire a voice to defend its interests, encourage a shared culture around the river and rethink relations between humans and "other-than-humans".
Through an institutional fiction, the project combines arts, sciences, law and citizen participation to reinvent interactions between inhabitants, territories and natural environments. This parliament is not a traditional body, but a narrative around which debates and experiments are organized in a variety of formats: hearings, Loire Assemblies, immersions, art-science-territory residencies, collectives, etc. This initiative is a veritable cultural and social laboratory.
This initiative constitutes a veritable cultural and territorial laboratory, offering inspiring avenues for communities wishing to innovate in terms of attractiveness, governance of the commons and ecological transition.
" What if the river was finally recognized as a player in our territories, and not just a mere backdrop? " - Excerpt from the Parlement de Loire hearings.
