SUMMARY

According to the United Nations, the population of the African continent is likely to double by 2050. Cities are the main draw for people hoping to find employment and better living conditions. Faced with this challenge, Rwanda aims to become one of the "greenest" countries and most prosperous economies in Africa. To this end, the country has already embarked on a national transformation plan, based on the knowledge economy and sustainable urban planning.

As part of its National Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Strategy (EDPRS II), the Rwandan government is leading a number of emblematic projects(Kigali Innovation City, Green City Kigali). These are designed to attract foreign talent and investors in strategic sectors (ICT, bio-tech, etc.) and to demonstrate "green" urban planning. With the support of the African Development Bank, a dedicated national fund(Rwanda Green Fund - Fonerwa), international cooperation(KfW Development Bank), or public-private partnerships, these major projects are shaping the future face of the "country of a thousand hills".
