SUMMARY

The Basque Country has had a local currency (MLC) complementary to the national currency since January 31, 2013. The aim is to support the local economy and Basque culture on the one hand, and to combat global warming on the other. In just a few years, theeusko has become the leading local currency in circulation in Europe. Today, it has over 3,800 individual users and a network of 1,100 businesses, shops, restaurants, farmers, associations, professionals and local authorities.
