SUMMARY

The village of Ollolai, in the heart of Sardinia, has lost 70% of its population in fifty years. To combat the decline and preserve the village's age-old culture, the mayor has decided to put 200 houses up for sale at the symbolic price of 1 euro. The purchase may be for conversion into a gîte or guest house, or as a first-time buyer. The houses are all in very poor condition and require major renovation work (around €20-25,000). In return, buyers commit to carrying out the work within 3 years.
