SUMMARY
Developed by TransActive Grid, Brooklyn Microgrid (BMG) combines renewable energy and the sharing economy. The project is the brainchild of two companies: Lo3 Energy, which sets up solar energy networks, and ConsenSys, which specializes in blockchain.
The initiative focuses solely on a few Brooklyn neighborhoods: Park Slope, Gowanus and Boerum Hill. BMG directly connects local renewable energy producers with neighboring energy consumers. In this way, residents who produce more energy than they consume can decide to redistribute it to other neighborhood residents.
In its 1st phase, BMG is allowing all residents with photovoltaic panels in the neighborhoods concerned to join the project.
This collaborative approach is made possible by the use of a system that guarantees the reliability of transactions: Blockchain.
