SUMMARY
In 2024, 6 million French people did not have a physician, and 87% of the country was classified as a medical desert, with certain areas suffering from a combination of weaknesses. Announced on April 25, 2025, the Pacte national de lutte contre les déserts médicaux aims to improve access to healthcare. Local authorities have not waited for this pact to combat medical desertification to take up the issue. From communes to regions, they are implementing proactive policies and actions to make their areas more attractive to healthcare professionals: students, interns, replacements or doctors already in practice. They support innovations that improve access to healthcare, a key factor in enhancing the quality of life and residential attractiveness of their residents.
